Every Sunday and Wednesday, This Camden Organization Makes Sure No One Goes Hungry

In the heart of Camden, Andre Spruel and a team of dedicated volunteers show up — rain or shine — to make sure their neighbors don’t go hungry.

Andre is the founder of H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat), a nonprofit organization committed to feeding the homeless and those facing food insecurity in Camden. Every Sunday and Wednesday, the team sets up at the corner of Broadway and Federal Street to serve meals to anyone who needs one. They’ve been doing it 52 weeks a year, and they have no plans to stop.

A Mission Bigger Than Camden

H.O.P.E. was built on a simple but powerful idea: no one should go without a meal. While the organization is rooted in Camden, Andre’s vision reaches far beyond city limits. H.O.P.E. is actively working to expand its reach to other cities and states, with the long-term goal of addressing food insecurity on a national and global level.

That kind of ambition takes community support — and H.O.P.E. has found creative ways to build it.

How the Organization Stays Funded

One of the ways H.O.P.E. raises money and awareness is through the sale of branded apparel — sweatshirts, hoodies, and t-shirts that spread the message while supporting the mission. Andre has even incorporated Eagles-themed gear into the mix, giving local fans a way to rep their team and give back at the same time.

Every dollar raised goes toward sustaining the weekly meal services and growing the organization’s reach.

The Volunteers Who Make It Happen

None of this works without people willing to give their time. Behind every meal served is a group of volunteers who show up week after week, driven by a shared commitment to their community. Andre is quick to credit them — their consistency is what keeps H.O.P.E. running and what ensures that no one in Camden has to face hunger alone.

How to Get Involved

Camden has always been a city that takes care of its own. H.O.P.E. is proof of that — one meal at a time.
