Camden has two chances to celebrate Juneteenth this year, with the City of Camden and the City of Camden African American Commission, Inc. each hosting their own event just days apart.
The City of Camden kicks things off on Thursday, June 18, at Roosevelt Plaza, 520 Market Street. The day opens with a flag raising ceremony at 10 a.m., followed by the main celebration at 4 p.m. featuring family fun, music, vendors, and food. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the event moves indoors to the North Camden Community Center at 1000 N. 6th Street.
A few days later, on Sunday, June 21, the City of Camden African American Commission, Inc. and Pasha Arts present their Juneteenth celebration at Farnham (Camden High) Park on Baird Boulevard, running from noon to 8 p.m. The lineup includes live music, live art, vendors, and spoken word, with performances from Veronica Underwood & Friends, Kameelah Waheed, Adia Niccole & Friends, and the Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble, plus a Michael Jackson tribute from De’Von Williams-Jiles. Charles Curtis III and Amirah X Kane will host, and vending opportunities are still open for anyone interested in setting up a table.
