As we look ahead forward to the rest of the 2025 year, plenty of us in Camden will faced with some uncertain times. Of course that is nothing new to our community however, this may be different this time around. With a lot of uncertainty headed to our county, small cities like Camden, who depend on support from our State and Federal Government, will have some adjusting. Our current makeup of the city may have some unique challenges going forward if we are not focused and maintaining our goals and aspirations.
In a city full of poverty, the thought of managing your financial situation becomes part of your life, yet plenty are setbacks substantially due to overspending, emotional spending, and lack of a true budget: what’s coming in vs what’s going on for the month. Other pitfalls comes in not preparing for the rise in cost of living and the overuse on credit cards or buy now pay later services. Failing to adjust for these can create long-term financial stress.
Stay on Track:
Create a Budget: Track your income and expenses to identify areas where you can cut back.
Build an Emergency Fund: Aim to save 3-6 months’ worth of living expenses.
Invest Wisely: Consider consulting a financial advisor to diversify your investments and plan for long-term goals like retirement.
Stay Informed: Keep up with economic trends and policy changes that may impact your finances, but avoid making impulsive decisions based on short-term fluctuations.
Camden is a small city with a bunch of communities throughout, serving as strength, support and culture. However, the pressure of modern life-long work hours, financial stress and generational divides- can strain these precious connections. Many people unknowingly spend more time on cell phones, than engaging with loved ones. Thus allowing an external presence to overshadow their real relationships that need our nuture and attention. It’s important to prioritize family relationships and create moments where everyone is valued and loved.
Strengthen your circle:
Prioritize Quality Time: Schedule regular family activities, such as dinners, game nights, or even a simple walk along the waterfront.
Communicate Openly: Foster an environment where everyone feels heard and valued.
Set Boundaries: Balance work and family life by setting clear boundaries, such as no phones during family time.
Plan for the Future: Discuss long-term goals as a family, whether it’s saving for a vacation, buying a home, or supporting a child’s education.
Although we are all in Camden and walk a different life, undoubtedly, our self-health and wellness are the biggest pieces of the puzzle. Being the best you…. not afraid, loving, determined, confident, compassionate, and in the best physical health you can be, helps you, helps your family, helps your community. Through your daily journey, try not to neglect your own self-care and personal reflections, which could lead to emotional distress.
A Better You
Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or a therapist when you need help.

Adopt a Balanced Diet: Focus on whole foods, limit processed items, and stay hydrated.
